Tips to help create the perfect Social Media Profile.

Your profile picture with content defines you.  You should put some effort into it, since it will best describe you. It is a venue to show the world how you feel, think, look and say. A lot of individuals are adamant about posting raw, spontaneous and uncut material even though they know that Schools, Companies and Colleges are using social media to research prospective candidates. They don´t realize that Social Media profiles are an assessment of what is perceived of you regardless of what you think you are and what you truly are. Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that on August 27th, “1 in 7 people on earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family”

They say that about 2% of the users of Social Media (the “social ones at its best”) are honest about their profile.  Obviously and hopefully it does not apply to Professional Networks. Facebook has almost 2 billion users and that would be a lot of liars. Following are few helpful tips that will help you develop a more attractive and accurate profile.
  1. Social Profiles- profiles should be candid, light and friendly. Your profile picture should be fresh or innovative. Don’t go into details about your pains and sorrows. Do cautiously brag about you accomplishments (kids, graduations, new jobs etc.). Try not to mix business with personal.  You target audience is different.  Pictures- Think what is realistically appropriate to post. TMI!!!!!
  2. Professional Profiles- They are directed towards a matured audience. Keep the tone of your posts professional and fresh. Your picture represents you work ethics, knowledge and environment. Use an appropriate one. Do not try to look too sexy nor having too much fun. If you can, post your accomplishments, locations and time frames do it. Is a way to mentioning your clients in a professional fashion. Be aware, that many companies look at Career or Professional Networks such as "LinkedIn" for information or searches on their potential candidates.Your profile will act as a resume. This applies to Fan pages as well. DO NOT MIX BUSINESS WITH OTHERS SETTINGS.
  3. Dating Profiles- You are truly selling yourself as a person. BE REALISTIC! You are meeting people; the truth will always come out. DO NOT over sex your picture. That is not what you look like on a daily basis. Don´t go into details about your pains and sorrows or how extremely “perky” you are.
  4. Write most of your posts. Content is key in attracting followers or users. Know what and when to post. Depending on the current situation and when needed, hire or consult a professional.  Is very important to seek outside guidance if you are a “Public Figure”.
