The use of social media as a news channel.

In the aftermath of what just occurred in Paris, France (also occurring in other parts of the world as well)- solemn acts of terrorism, we take for granted how accessible and quickly this information can spread and disperse thru all media. We just see it as news feeds.  To be able to tape, view, comment, hear and relate such tragedy in such a blink of an eye was practically unheard of 25 years ago.  How our society has become such tech savvy, that we are constantly and immediately informed of any event at any given moment and how these tech savvies can create such havoc in the form of terrorism is uncanny. As we know, terrorism of any type has occurred for many years.

Yet, I succumb to the question, if we are able to disperse all these information about terrorism, bombs, wars etc. How come, we are not able to use this same medium of digital savviness and give the same emphasis on the education of tolerance and understanding of other people´s view in politics, religion or life without turning them into an act of violence? We live in an era were social media, blogs, online news dictate our opinion, voice and perspective. You would think it should be always used in a positive manner.

In “Inbound Marketing”, “Online Marketing” or “Digital Marketing”, we are always describing how content is King and conversation is Queen in selling a product, brand or image.  Can´t we use the same tools in educating and giving more awareness without being so politically correct?  Not to undermine Paris, but Paris was not the only place where a terrorist attack occurred last week. Beirut, Baghdad, Lebanon, Syria to say the least. Yes, I am aware that technology is not as advanced and available to the masses in those countries as most European, LATAM and North American countries, but they are constantly present. Yet these 3rd and 4rth world countries do have the access to the most highly efficient technology gadgets and use it against the less successful masses in their country.
Social media, digital news, blogs and live streaming are compelling ways of informing us in the public sector.  It is used strategically in the private sector and used offensively and cryptic in the military or political sector.  We brag how more and more apps are available on making our lives more secured, easy and convenient. But aren´t those same factors used for those who are against or defy us?

Today´s blog was just a perspective and reflection of the use of digital marketing in today´s world. For the good and/or the bad. Your comments are most welcome.
